It's officially February and Valentine's Day is just two weeks away. For many, it's time to start thinking about what we are going to do for that special someone in our life. Often this means a dinner reservation accompanied by chocolates, flowers, jewelry or perhaps a night at the theatre. Some might think of a gift card, but is a gift card approriate for a Valentines Day gift? In short, yes, it can be a great option.
First off, if you're buying a gift for your spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend, or fiance the chances are good there are better options than a gift card. However, it's possible a gift card can be a hit.
For example, not all of use want to go out to dinner on the February 14th; after all, it's so crowded. Perhaps a great way to give your loved one a dinner IOU is to include a gift card to their favorite restaurant inside a Valentine's Day greeting card and mention post-Valentine's Day dinner date.
Also, at one time Valentine's Day was specifically for couples/lovers. However, it's more and more common for people to express their love for a family member on Valentines Day. If you're sending Mom a nice Valentines Card, why not add a little juice and give her a Valentine's gift card she'll really love!
Keep in mind, personalization can make a bit difference when giving a gift card. With little extra effort/thought a gift cards can be supplemented and turned into a little something which is much more meaningful than a stuffed animals or box of chocolates.
